John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a resident of downtown Fort Lauderdale for ten years, I saw a need for a carryout option on Las Olas Blvd. This need only increased after having kids! I wanted to bring a quality product at an affordable price for locals and tourists. After reviewing a dozen concepts, I landed on Stoner’s Pizza Joint, a small franchise based in Charleston, SC. After working with Corporate, I was able to acquire the rights to Fort Lauderdale and become the first franchisee in South Florida.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any business, there have been several bumps along the way. I purchased an existing pizzeria and completely renovated the location. The renovation went 50% over budget and set us back over a month to open the doors due to unforeseen obstacles. After opening the doors and getting through some employee turnover, the road has been much smoother!

Stoner’s Pizza Joint features fresh, high-quality non-GMO food prepared in-house daily with proprietary recipes for the pizza dough, sauce, and cheese blend. Menu items include a simple variety of specialty pizzas, calzones, strombolis, sandwiches, hickory-smoked chicken wings made daily in-house, freshly prepared salads, and baked chocolate chip cookies. We are known best for our specialty pizzas, tender chicken wings that are smoked for over three hours, and baked chocolate cookies. We are most proud of our high-quality product at an affordable price!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am actively looking to open more locations in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area. The feedback from the community in the first six months has been spectacular, and we believe the concept will be well received in surrounding cities.
